Ajoy Chakraborty unveils Durga Puja album
India classical vocalist Ajoy Chakraborty Thursday launched his latest Durga Puja album 'O Kar Murti Re Mon' here.
Present at the occasion were Tollywood actor Prosenjit Chatterjee and actress Koel Mallick.
The devotional album consists of 27 songs based on various phases of Durga Puja from 'Bodhon' (awakening) to Visarjan (immersion of the idol), on the preachings of Teerthaswamiji Maharaj, religious Guru (teacher) of the singer.
Speaking to IBNS, Chakraborty said,"The effort in making the album is for more than 12 years. It is an attempt to pay homage to all mothers who are like Durga Maa (mother) since we have never seen the image of the idol. It's in our mind but our mothers all around solve the problems so it's high time we pay them respect."
The singer's late father Ajit Kumar Chakraborty was also interested and worked for 18 years to collect all relevant songs and frame them in written form with lots of Vedic hymns, informed the singer.
"The album has songs in the voice of Kuashiki Chakraborty and Chandana Chakrabory (wife) and several students of their music academy, Shrutinandan."
The album comes with a booklet comprising of lyrics of the songs and brief write up by the veteran singer elaborating the origin and spiritual sources in his family ambiance that resulted in the album.
Kaushiki said, "This was recorded much from the experiences we had as a kid when we used to sing these songs. We wanted to share our Durga Puja experiences with the listeners."
Speaking at the occasion, Prosenjit Chatterjee said, " The time is perfect for the launch of an album paying homage to the mothers."
While Koel Mallick said, "Maa (mother) is power, purity and strength. I feel honoured to be a part of this. The phase is not very good for the female fraternity, so not only through Pujas, there should be more respect for women."
