Haryana reports 14th rape of Dalit girl
A day after the high profile visit of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to Haryana to assure victims of rape in Haryana justice, yet another gangrape was reported from Kaithal district in the state in which a Dalit girl was assaulted by some men after she was kidnapped by them, reports said on Wednesday.
Police have arrested two accused in the case in Kaithal, but with the incident almost coinciding with the visit of Sonia Gandhi, it seemed the visit of Gandhi in the Congress ruled state has failed to impact the perpetrators of such crimes.
The incident in Kaithal is the 14th such case in the state in the past nearly one month.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday paid a visit to the family of a Dalit girl in Haryana who committed suicide after she was gang-raped over the weekend and promised that perpetrators of such "barbaric" crimes shall be brought to justice.
Meeting the family of the Dalit teenaged girl, who had immolated herself, and Gandhi said those guilty of such heinous crimes, which take place not only in Haryana but elsewhere too, must be "severely punished".
On her visit Gandhi was accompanied by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Union Minister Kumari Selja, Haryana Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala and Congress MP from Sirsa, Ashok Tanwar.
A series of rapes have been reported from Haryana In the last 30 days and the rattled state government finally on Thursday formed a three-member committee at district levels to investigate, monitor and ensure speedy prosecution of such crimes.
