Want to understand your pain: Rahul Gandhi to Kashmiris
In the wake of recent killings of village council members in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said that he wants to understand their pain as his family lineage was also from the state.
The Congress General Secretary, who was the guest of honour during the foundation lying ceremony of the Z-Morh tunnel here yesterday said that he wants the state of Jammu and Kashmir to experience the same economic growth like other Indian states.
"I want to say that my family also belongs to Kashmir, we are also Kashmiri's. I have set an aim for Kashmir. I know that people of this state had to bear a lot of troubles, and my main target now is to establish a relationship with the people of this state and deeply understand your problems and your pain," said Gandhi.
"I have two goals here. First is to establish a relation with you and understand your pain deeply.... Second goal is to connect Kashmiri youth with the development process," Gandhi said, adding that the nation is growing rapidly and the same should happen in Kashmir.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister C P Joshi on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a 6.5 km tunnel that will provide all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and this highway resort on Srinagar-Ladakh road.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Union Minister Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister of State for Home Jeetendra Singh were also present at the function in Sonamarg, 85 kilometres from Srinagar.
