Four workers, including two women, sustained burn injuries in a fire accident at a private cracker unit factory in Vellur village, here today.
Police said the mishap occurred, when the workers were mixing highly inflammable chemical powders for manufacturing colour matchboxes and fancy varieties of crackers at Ganesh Colour Match Works factory.
The injured were admitted to the government hospital here.
Soon after the incident, police and revenue officials rushed to the site and were investigating whether the factory was adopting safety norms and other government rules.
As many as 42 workers were killed and more than 60 injured in two separate fire accidents in two de-licensed fireworks factories at Mudalipatti and Vijayakarisalkulam villages in Sivakasi - the fireworks hub of India, last month triggering a panic alarm.
Following the two major fire accidents within a month, Tamil Nadu government resorted to a slew of measures to enforce safety norms and curb illegal manufacturing of crackers.
