Puducherry Legislative Assembly Speaker V Sabapathy today rejected the resignation letter of Yanam legislator Malladi Krishna Rao faxed to him two days ago.
According to official sources, legislative Assembly Secretary Anbazhagan today wrote a letter to Mr Rao informing him about the rejection of the latter.
In the letter, Mr Anbazhagan stated that it was being rejected since it was not in the proper format. It was also pointed out that the resignation letter should be handed over in person after writing and signing it.
It was learnt that the letter faxed by Mr Rao was not written as per the rules prescribed under sub rule (6) of 261 of rules of procedure and conduct of business of the Pondicherry Legislative Assembly 1996. As per the rules, there was no need to cite any reason for resignation while Mr Rao had cited health problems as a reason.
It may be noted that Mr Rao had put forth seven demands to be fulfilled by the administration and threatened that he would resign from his post if the demands were not fulfilled before October 2. Since, the government failed to take any action, he had faxed his resignation to the Speaker.
