Karnataka Minister for Minor Irrigation Govind Karjol today said the State government has prepared a Rs 2000 crore comprehensive plan for development of new lakes in the state.
Talking to reporters here, he said nearly 2,600 sites had been identified in the Krishna basin catchment area of ten districts of North Karnataka region for developing the new lakes.
He said since last four years nearly 1710 irrigation works undertaken in Bijapur division comprising Bijapur and Bagalkot districts, of which 849 works were completed, the remaining were under various stages of progress. Nearly Rs 730 crore had been spent for these works and nearly 33,558 hectares of land directly and indirectly helped with irrigation facilities.
He said 12 lift irrigation works under taken in twin districts since four years at a cost of Rs 157.53 crore which includes the major work of Karjol lift irrigation work costing Rs 84 crore. With implementation of these works nearly 3,531 hectares of land irrigated in the twin districts.
