The humane side of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa came to the fore today when she presented Rs 1.25 lakh for purchase of an artificial limb to a person who lost his right leg in a road accident.
The beneficiary R Murali was from Srirangam from where the Chief Minister was elected to the State Assembly in the last year's assembly elections.
An official release here said when Ms Jayalalithaa was in Srirangam recently, Murali submitted a petition to her explaining that he was more than 80 per cent handicapped.
The limbs normally fitted for the physically challenged were not enough and hence he needed a special limb which would cost around Rs 1.25 lakh.
Ms Jayalalithaa passionately considered his plea and ordered payment of Rs 1.25 lakh from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund, the release said.
The Chief Minister presented a cheque for Rs 1.25 lakh to Murali in person at the State Secretariat here today.
Murali expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister and and said her gesture would help him walk back soon.
