BJD, Congress launch padayatra to project their political agenda
The ruling Biju Janata Dal and the major Opposition Congress in Odisha today launched 'padayatra' on the eve of the Gandhi Jayanti, to project their respective political agenda before people of the state.
While Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik flagged off the padayatra of Biju Janata Dal from the Bhubaneswar Ekamra Assembly constituency, Pradesh Congress President Niranjan Patnaik launched his 'paribartan' padayatra from the Swarajya Ashrma in Cuttack, considered as an important historical place in the freedom struggle movement of the country.
The BJD has decided to cover all the 147 Assembly constituencies during its ten-day padayatra which will be completed on October 11, on the Jayaprakash Jayanti, the Congress has decided to complete the Padayatra on the Gopabandhu Jayanti on October 9 next.
The ruling BJD has chalked out a series of meetings during the nine-day padayatra in which the party leaders and activists will apprise the people of various social welfare measures taken by the Naveen Patnaik government during the past 12 years.
The party would also campaign against the apathy of the Centre towards the state and various corruption issues such as the 2G Spectrum and the Coalgate scams that rocked the nation during the Congress led UPA government.
On the other hand, the Congress will try to expose the various scams in mining, supply of dal, coal and the irregularities in MGNREGA during the past 12 years rule of the BJD government led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The party will also apprise the people of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and the stagnation in the administration during the Naveen Patnaik regime.
