Mums feel parenthood 'harder' than they thought
Most mothers find parenthood to be harder than they thought it would be, researchers have found.
Sleepless nights were named the biggest challenge in a survey of 2,000 mothers by DryNites company, but they can be just the start of decades of trials and tribulations.
"There are some challenges you expect. But I don't think anyone can be prepared for how many issues and stressful situations you will face over the years - from the baby and toddler stage and throughout school," the Daily Mail quoted Emma Kenny, a child psychologist, as saying.
"Even teenagers and young adults seem to come with their own set of challenges for mums," she said.
Almost three quarters of mothers polled said motherhood had been much more challenging than they ever imagined.
More than three quarters worry things are going to become more challenging as their children get older. Almost half of mothers claimed they find things more challenging than their partner.
The top 10 challenges faced by parents were:
Sleep deprivation
Tantrums
Being patient
Keeping on top of household chores
Getting children to eat the right foods
Potty training
Sibling rivalry
Juggling childcare
Giving children what they want without spoiling them
Getting them to clean their teeth properly
