The Bangalore and Goa CBI teams jointly conducted a series of raids in the offices of mining barons in different locations across Goa on Saturday.

The raids were a part of the ongoing investigation into the massive mining scam at Bellary and the related Belekeri port scam in Karnataka.

Several mining industries owned by ex-MLA Anil Salgaonkar and Sri Mallikarjun Shipping situated in Panaji, Margao and Vasco were searched by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) teams.

"Thousands of documents and other materials were confiscated for the probe," a CBI officer told reporters.

The raids come in the wake of CBI registering atleast five cases against former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and others for their alleged involvement in the illegal iron ore export scam.

The Supreme Court had directed the CBI to probe the scam.

The raids will continue for another two days.

"Salgaonkar's companies are reportedly linked with the mining companies in Karnataka... Five more locations will be raids in the coming two days," an officer said.
