Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and American Ambassaddor to India Nancy J Powell today handed over 'Obama-Singh 21st Centaury Knowledge Initiative (OSI)' grant to Mahatma Gandhi University Vice-Chancellor Rajan Kurikkal at a function here.

The OSI, a joint initiative of Indo-US Government, aims and focuses on the formation of higher education partnerships between US and Indian institutions of higher learning, carries a grant of 2,50,000 dollars in funding over the next three years.

Out of the four projects selected from the Indian side from among all the major Central and state universities, IITs and research organisations, MG University boasts of the unique position of the lone affiliating state University, whereas IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi and Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi have also found a place in the final list.

Under the partnerships and projects announced by Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Mahatma Gandhi University will partner Brown University, Duke University and Plymouth State University in the US on project titled 'An Interdisciplinary and Community Oriented Approach towards Sustainable Development.
