Sachin Pilot commissioned in Territorial Army
Minister of State for Telecommunication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot was commissioned in the rank of Lieutenant in the Territorial Army (TA) on Thursday.
"On 06 Sep 2012 Shri Sachin Pilot, Hon'ble Minister of State for Telecommunication and Information Technology has been commissioned in the rank of Lieutenant in the Territorial Army (TA)," said the Defence Ministry in a statement.
"An issue was raised during media interaction, post the ceremony, that whether his being commissioned into Territorial Army signifies to him occupying an office of profit," it said.
"It is clarified that being commissioned into Territorial Army is covered under Para 3(c) of Parliament (PREVENTION OF DISQUALIFICATION) ACT ,1959 (10 OF 1959 DT 4-4-1951) as amended by Act 31 of 2006,dt 18-8 2006 as certain offices of profit not to disqualify, 'the office of member of any forces raised or maintained under the National Cadet Corps Act,1948(31 of 1948), The Territorial Army Act,1948(56 of 1948), or the Reserve and Auxiliary Air Forces Act,1952(62 of 1952)'," said the ministry.
