Heavy rain forecast in next 48 hrs: SW Monsoon vigorous over Kerala
Isolated heavy rainfall has been forecast in Kerala and Lakshadweep during the next 48 hours as southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Kerala.
Strong onshore winds from westerly direction with speed occasionally reaching 45-55 kmph are also likely along and off Kerala coast and over Lakshadweep area during the next 24 hours, according to MeT sources here today.
Rain/thundershower would occur at most places in Kerala and at many places in Lakshadweep. Rain occurred at most places in Lakshadweep.
Heavy rainfall reports in cm are Kanjirappally (Kottayam district) 9, Ponnani (Malappuram district) 8 and Kayamkulam (Alappuzha district), Quilandy and Vadakara (both in Kozhikode district) 7 each.
The other chief amounts of rainfall reports in cm are Kozhikode, Kodungallur (Thrissur district) and Vythiri (Wayanad district) 6 each, Amini and Kavaratti (both in Lakshadweep), Thiruvananthapuram AP, Chalakudy (Thrissur district), Irikkur (Kannur district) and Konni (Pathanamthitta district) 5 each, Agathi (Lakshadweep), Karipur AP (Malappuram district), Thiruvananthapuram city, Thalasserry (Kannur district), Mananthavady (Wayanad district), Parambikulam (Palakkad district), Thrissur, Aluva and Piravom (both in Ernakulam district).
Mavelikkara and Chengannur (both in Alappuzha district), Vaikom (Kottayam district), Munnar (Idukki district) and Aryankavu recorded rainfall 4 cm each.
Alappuzha, Cherthala and Haripad (all in Alappuzha district), Kochi AP and Ernakulam South (both in Ernakulam district), Kannur and Taliparamba (both in Kannur district), Minicoy (Lakshadweep), Palakkad, Ottappalam, Alathur, Kollengode, Pattambi and Thrithala (all in Palakkad district), Vellanikkara and Enamackel (both in Thrissur district), Thodupuzha (Idukki district), Thiruvalla (Pathanamthitta district), Kudulu (Kasaragod district) and Angadippuram (Malappuram district) recorded 3 cm rainfall each.
