A team of doctors of Post-graduate Institute of Dental Sciences (PGIDS), Rohtak has performed a rare surgery and removed schwannoma (swelling of nerve) from the left side of neck of a 19-year-old patient.

Stating this today, a PGIDS spokesman said the patient namely Mr Krishan, a resident of Jhajjar, was successfully operated upon by Dr Virendra Singh, Head of Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Dr Ishwar Singh, Head of Department of Neurology and Dr Mamta, Anesthesiologist.

He said the patient had reported in PGIDS in the month of July. His hearing was impaired due to this swelling of nerve which was just behind his jaw partially extending into his brain.

A little traction of injury to that area would have proved fatal for the patient.

He said the operation took seven hours and the patient was fine thereafter and there was no pain.
