Punjab Congress pays rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi
Glowing tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 68th birth anniversary here today at the Punjab Congress Bhawan.
Party leaders led by the PCC President Capt Amarinder Singh paid floral tributes to his portrait and later recalled his contribution to the nation and the great sacrifice he did for the unity and integrity of the country.
Capt Amarinder Singh recalled his long association with late Rajiv Gandhi from the Doon School days where they were together in 1950s. He said, Rajiv was a highly decent and affable person who would always wear his characteristic gentle smile that reflected his true gentle self.
The PCC President recalled, when Rajiv was studying in the Doon School, he was the grandson of the Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. "Rajiv behaved in such a decent and unassuming manner that nobody could make out that he was the grandson of the Prime Minister", he said while recalling his gentle manners.
Capt Amarinder said, it was great tragedy that the nation lost Rajiv at a young age. He said, Rajiv had a great vision for the future of the country and had he been around, the country would have progressed and prospered much better.
The PCC President said, the current economic liberalization was scripted by Rajiv Gandhi only and he had laid down the foundations for the same. He pointed out, the telecom revolution and the computer revolution was scripted by the late Prime Minister only.
