Rajasthan Police sub-inspector arrested for bribery
A sub-inspector of Rajasthan Police posted in the state's Ganganagar district was arrested Monday after he was caught accepting a bribe of Rs.33,000 from a transport businessman, police said.
The officer was demanding a bribe of Rs.33,000 per month for providing the businessman transport permits for his trucks, they added.
According to Rajasthan Police's Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Sant Kumar Srivastava was deputed in the district transport office in Sriganganagar, some 500 km from Jaipur.
"Bheemchand Jat had approached the ACB and lodged a complaint that the sub-inspector was not allowing him to ply his trucks unless the bribe was paid every month," said Inspector General (ACB) Umesh Mishra.
The officer said the complaint was verified and a trap was laid.
"An ACB team caught Sant Kumar accepting the bribe money from Bheemchand Monday afternoon," said the officer.
Srivastava has been booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
