Terrorism is cancer for development: Rajiv Shukla

Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla today said terrorism should be rooted out by all means to ensure development and prosperity of the nation.

At a function of Shaheed Parivar Fund to distribute a sum of Rs 29 lakh to 145 families of the terrorist victims, Mr Shukla termed terrorism as cancer and said if it was not rooted out, it would hamper development of the country.

Mr Shukla said all the political parties should initiate joint efforts to bring an end to the menace of terrorism which had no faith in humanity and human values.

He stressed upon the need to work for the integrity and solidarity of the country shunning petty party politics and thinking above party lines.

He disclosed that more than 11 lakh people had been killed by the Taliban militants which was a big disaster for the humanity.

Praising Mr Vijay Chopra and his family for organising such philanthropic activities for the service of the humanity, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra said the condition of his state had improved a lot and the government had achieved a great success in controlling terrorism with heavy hands.

He said only 2200 people had been killed in J and K since he took over charge as Governor of the state.

Union Minister of State for Industries Ashwini Kumar and Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Sunil Jakhar were among the other prominent leaders who spoke on the occasion.

In the function, 145 people of the terrorist affected families were handed over a sum of Rs 29 lakhs in the form of Fixed Deposit Receipts of Rs 20,000 each.
