Six hours curfew relaxation in Bareilly on last Ramzan Friday

Curfew in four police station areas of this city in Uttar Pradesh was today relaxed for six hours from 0500 hrs with special permission to offer 'Alvida Namaz'(the last prayer) on the last Friday of Ramzan.

An indefinite curfew was imposed in Baradari, Kila, Premnagar and Kotwali area on the night of August 11 after communal violence during Janmashtami procession.

No untoward incident had so far been reported from anywhere during this period, District Magistrate Abhishesk Prakash told UNI adding the situation was peaceful and under control. He said security was further increased to see Alvida Namaz through in peaceful manner.

Schools, colleges, cinema halls, banks and other commercial establishments in the curfew-bound areas remained closed today also, the DM said.

So far, more than 350 people have been arrested on the charge of breach of peace. A raid was conducted in the house of a former corporator Mohd Aslam last night where some cartidges were recovered.

Rapid Action Force, Provincial Armed Constabulary and local policemen have been deployed in the city and round the clock vigil was on, the DM said.

Last month too, curfew was clamped for 17 days after communal violence had gripped five areas of the city. Three people were killed and more than 30 injured, including some policemen, in the communal violence which hit the city first time on July 22.
