299 encephalitis deaths in Bihar
: Bihar Health Minister Ashwani Chaube said as many as 299 children succumbed to encephalitis in the state this year.
Chaube made the comments in the Legislative Council on Tuesday.
Chaube said 178 deaths occurred in Muzaffarpur district of the state while 104 children succumbed to the disease in Patna district.
The minister said a virology unit was set up in the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and similar steps were taken in other important government hospitals in the state.
Encephalitis is an acute inflammation of the brain. Symptoms include headache, fever, confusion, drowsiness, and fatigue.
More advanced and serious symptoms include seizures or convulsions, tremors, hallucinations, and memory problems.
