Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today ordered to extend all possible legal and financial assistance to Burundi national Yannick Nihangaza, a student studying in the Lovely Professional University at Jalandhar, who sustained serious injuries following a criminal assault on him by a group of youngsters on April 21 this year.
Stating this here today, a Chief Minister's Office (CMO) spokesperson said that Mr Badal gave his nod to bear the expenditure for Yannick's medicines given by Columbia Asia Hospital at Patiala, where he was admitted for treatment.
He said that on the request of Yannick's father Mr Nestor Ntibateganya, the state government would soon arrange for an air ambulance to lift the injured student to Delhi besides paying the air fare (business class) for both Mr Yannick and his father from Delhi to take him to the nearest hospital in Rwanda.
Meanwhile, Mr Badal assured Mr Ntibateganya that all the culprits involved in this heinous crime would be soon punished as per the law of the land.
He said a foolproof case had already been registered and the public prosecutor had been asked to pursue the case vigorously for ensuring exemplary punishment to the culprits by the courts so that foreign students coming to state for pursuing higher studies feel safe and secure.
It may be recalled the Punjab Government had already paid Rs five lakh as financial assistance for the treatment of Yannick.
