YSR Congress Party Honorary President Y S Vijayamma today announced that she would hold a two-day fast in Eluru of West Godavari District from August 12 to protest the Andhra Pradesh Government's alleged move to dilute the fee reimbursement scheme introduced by her husband and Former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy for the welfare of poor and middle class people.
Talking to mediapersons here, Ms Vijayamma alleged that the government was planning to dilute the reimbursement scheme after the Supreme Court's recent verdict making it clear to fix uniform fee for both government and management quota seats.
She said the Supreme Court verdict would put additional burden on the government nearly to the tune of Rs 500 crore. Considering the financial consequences, she alleged that the government wants to dilute the scheme putting burden on the poor and middle class.
She criticised Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for allegedly disowning all YSR schemes citing financial implications and demanded that the government implement the fee reimbursement scheme to all qualified students and increase the amount for mess bills of SC/ST/BC students as per the changed rates.
