Highway robbers gang busted
District rural police have claimed to have cracked a nine-member notorious gang of highway robbers and seized four luxury cars worth Rs 40 lakh.
SSP rural Yurinder Singh Hayer, while divulging details of the gang and recoveries made, said two members of the gang-- Bikramjit Singh and Tarsem Singh--had been arrested and during preliminary interrogation, they revealed about the nine-member gang indulged in highway robberies of luxury vehicles and other valuable articles, including cash and gold jewelry from their victims on gun point.
The police also recovered a 7.65 mm pistol and two live cartridges from their possession.
The SSP said seven members of the gang had absconded which included Amandeep Singh alias Raja of Ferozpur, Inderprit Singh of Chandigarh, Nitin of Dharamsala, Sonu of Ludhiana, Larence Bakhshi of Abohar, Inderjit Singh of Tohana (Haryana) and Jaggu of Yamuna Nagar in Haryana.
He said police parties had been dispatched to nab them.
The SSP said the gang was operating in the areas of Kudhiana, Dubwali, Bathinda, Panchkula, Naraingarh, Doraha, Sirsa and Yamunanagar for last over two years.
After snatching vehicles, the gang got fake documents of the vehicles with fake registration numbers prepared to sell them at throwaway prices to the aspirants of having luxury vehicles.
He said four vehicles worth Rs 40 lakh on the instance of the duo.
Both the culprits confessed involvement of the gang in more than 14 crimes of highway robbery and looting incidents.
