Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today gave a clarion call to the people of Punjab for "uniting to get rid of the anti-poor and anti-farmer UPA government, which has failed in controlling inflation, in coming Parliamentary elections."

Speaking at a state-level function held here to pay the tributes to Shaheed Udham Singh on his 73rd martyrdom day, Mr Badal also alleged that the Congress had always neglected not only the patriotic aspect of Punjab that had contributed more than 80 per cent share in freedom struggle but also overlooked the hardships of Punjabi farmers in resolving the country's food crisis, even at the cost of state's natural resources such as soil and groundwater.

"It was a matter of great regret that the Congress had always ignored all the legitimate demands and interests of the state and its farmers," added Mr Badal.
