200 bus passengers caught in Madhya Pradesh floods rescued
About 200 passengers trapped in three buses after being marooned due to floods in the Chillar river in Shajapur district have been rescued, official sources said today.
"Flood water from the river spread in nearby areas last night. Nearly 200 passengers in three buses were trapped on a bridge over the river this morning," said Inspector General of Police (Ujjain Range) Upendra Jain.
Relief and rescue operations were carried out by police and administrative staff with the help of three motorboats.
According to sources, rescue operations were smooth due to less rainfall. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was in contact with officials at the Ujjain divisional headquarters and was monitoring relief and rescue operations.
Meanwhile, Kshipra, Narmada, Kalisindh and other seasonal rivers and rivulets in Ujjain, Dewas and Shajapur districts were in spate while several low-lying areas were water-logged.
