Agra finally gets rains
Heavy rains have lashed Agra and the neighbouring region, flooding low-lying areas and pushing back the spectre of drought.
Agra saw several spells of rain in the past 24 hours.
The showers choked many drains and flooded low-lying areas in Agra, home to the Taj Mahal, said resident and insurance agent Sudheir Gupta.
Mathura, Firozabad, Mainpuri and other nearby districts also reported heavy showers.
A drizzle continued the whole of Wednesday night.
The sky is overcast. For the moment the weather remains pleasant, and tourists flocking to the Taj Mahal and other monuments "are having a grand time", said tourist guide Ved Gautam.
The Yamuna and its tributaries, however, are still largely dry. The weather office has forecast rains Friday and Saturday.
