8 policemen missing for 19 years in Bareilly

Bareilly, Jul 21 : Eight policemen are missing for the past 19 years and the Uttar Pradesh police department is yet to find out about their whereabouts.

The matter came to light yesterday in a drug related case hearing in a local court when the policemen, who had arrested a drug peddler, did not appear.

According to the sources, the case is pending since 1993 but the policemen failed to appear in the court to give their evidences.

According to the case, eight policemen including a police station officer Gopi Chandra Verma of Aonla police station had arrested one Munna Lal along with 1.5 kilograms of opium on September 1, 1993.

The policemen missing have been identified as Inspector Gopi Chandra Verma, Sub-Inspectors Lajjaram Yadav and I H Zaidi, Constables Dildar Khan, Vijay Gautam, Vikram Singh, Srikrishan Singh and Pratap Singh.

During the hearing, the government counsel said the whereabouts of the policemen is not known and even the state police headquarters do not know their postings or either they have retired.

Meanwhile, Bareilly SSP Sanjeev Gupta has sent a message to all the districts to get the information about the missing policemen before the next date of hearing on July 28.
