Thiruvananthapuram, July 20: Kerala Health Minister V. S. Sivakumar has said government doctors will be instructed to prescribe generic drugs.
Addressing the state Assembly on Thursday, Sivakumar said all patients, excluding government employees and income tax payees, will be able to avail free generic drugs at government hospitals from November 1.
He was replying to a discussion on the Sixth Report of the Committee on Private Members' Bills and Resolutions dealing with drug prices and related issues.
The minister also said that the government will consider supplying medicines to private medical shops at low prices through the State Medical Services Corporation.
