Punjab govt allots 50 acre land to Cancer Hospital in Mohali
Chandigarh, Jul 18 : The Punjab government has allotted 50 acre land to the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, free of cost for setting up of a state-of-the-art cancer hospital in the Medi-city being developed by GMADA at Mullanpur in district SAS Nagar, Mohali.
A decision to this effect was taken by the 13th meeting of Greater Mohali Area Development Authority under the Chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here at CMO this afternoon.
Disclosing this a spokesperson of the CMO said the Atomic Energy Commission had already granted in-principle approval for setting up of Cancer Hospital on the lines of the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, Mumbai in Punjab near Chandigarh and the DAE intends to initiate work on the site immediately.
It was also decided in the meeting to engage the services of some eminent company for the beautification, landscaping besides organising the light and sound programme at Baba Bandha Singh Memorial so that the visitors coming at the site should realise the sanctity of the monument in its historical perspective.
GMADA also approved to enhance the maintenance rates for the upkeep of the parks by the resident welfare associations from Rs 1.30 per sq meters to Rs 1.77 per sq meters per month.
The authority also cleared the proposal for the setting up of Expo Centre of International standards over an area of 60 acre in the knowledge park at Mohali. This project would be developed by PIDB in PPP mode.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who also holds the portfolio of Housing and Urban Development, asked the GMADA for the setting up of such Expo-Center at Amritsar along with conventional hall for holding seminars on trade and commerce. This initiative would help in propelling the potential of exports to an enormous degree especially in the wake of ICP regime at Attari-Wagha border in the Indian sub continent.
Prominent among others who were present in the meeting included Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Housing and Urban Development S K Sandhu, CA GMADA Sarvjit Singh, ACA GMADA Manjit Singh Brar, Director Local Govt A K Sinha, Secretary Expenditure Dalip Kumar, Director Town and Country Planning Aujla, KJS Cheema and Gaggandip Singh Brar (both Special Principal Secretaries to Chief Minister).
