Glowing tributes paid to martyred Captain Garcha by army
Jalandhar,June 30 : Glowing tributes were paid to Captain Rupinder Singh Garcha at a function held here today to mark his 12th martyrdom.
SAD MLA and former Punjab sports director Pargat Singh chaired the function.
He placed wreaths on the statue of the martyred army officer who sacrificed his life while fighting the insurgents in J and K about 12 years ago.
Pargat Singh said the army officers from Punjab had always remained infront whether it was a peace mission or countering insurgency in J and K or in the far flung eastern states.
Lt General Surjit Singh said the contribution of army officers from Punjab like Captain Garcha in maintaining austerity of the army by sacrificing their lives for the integrity and solidarity of the nation would remain afresh in the minds of the Indian people and will be a motivation for the younger generations to do something immortal for the country.
He disclosed that after the partition of the country, 14000 army officers and jawans of the 323 AD regiment had sacrificed their lives in maintaining peace at the borders of whom 3100 were from Punjab only.
Captain Garcha was given salute by the officers and jawans of his 323 AD regiment on the occasion. Retired Lt.General GS Garcha, father of Captain Garcha, Major Sanjiv Trivedi of the 27 AD regiment and retired Col Amarbir S Singh also paid tributes to the martyr.
