Cairo, June 20 : Ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is critically ill and may be close to death, some media reports said, even as others claimed he has been revived and is on an artificial respirator after he suffered stroke.
Initial reports said he was "clinically dead" after suffering a strike and being moved from prison to an army hospital.
However, a lawyer for Mubarak's family told Al Jazeera that he was actually unconscious and on a respirator after he was rushed to Maadi Hospital near Cairo from Tora prison hospital.
The news came amid protests over disputed presidential election results and sweeping powers for the ruling military.
The 84-year-old Mubarak was ousted in a popular uprising last year and jailed for life for his role in the death of protesters.
