Poacher held for hunting deer
Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, Mar 20 : In a joint operation, a special team comprising Forest and Police officials arrested a poacher for hunting deer and seized a country made gun, knives, spot light and three kg of deer meat at Kilavankoil locality, adjacent to Bilavakkal dam in Srivilliputhur Taluk, here today.
Acting on a tip-off, the special team raided a house, where the deer meat was kept for cooking. The deer was hunted in the nearby reserve forest area.
The officials arrested Ayyanar (54) for illegal hunting and were on the lookout for three more poachers in this connection. A case has been registered against them under Section 21 (b) of the Tamil Nadu Forest Act 1882 and also under Section 9 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
