Protesting volunteers of Tamil outfits held in Puducherry
Puducherry, Mar 20 : Over 100 volunteers of Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and some other Tamil outfits were arrested when they attacked the local office of Union Minister of state for PMO V Narayanasamy today.
According to police, the mob gathered in front of the office and pelted stones breaking the glass panes. Following the attack, a gate to the office was locked.
They were protesting against the failure of the Congress government to take any concrete steps in the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.
A few volunteers of the Tamiz Vazhvurumai Katchi, were assaulted by the Congress volunteers who were present at the office of Mr Narayanasamy two days back when they came there to picket it.
About 90 volunteers of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and All India Youth Federation (AIYF) were arrested when they put up a road blockade at the Kamaraj Statue Junction demanding that the government of India should make some amendment in the US spnsored UN resolution against Sri Lanka and support it.
Communsit Party of India (Marxist) today held a demonstration in front of the head post office over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.
As many as 150 volunteers of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) were arrested when they took out a procession from marappalam and picketed the Mudalairpet post office.
Engineering College Students resorted to a fast at Saram Avvai thidal here in the issue.
