Pol parties welcome single phase polls to K'taka Assembly
Bangalore, Mar 20: Political Parties, including the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party,today welcomed the Election Commission decision to hold single phase elections to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on May 5.
During the past one week, the major claimants for power, BJP, Congress and the Janta Dal (Secular) besides the Karnataka Janata Paksha of former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa have been holding consultations to decide on the poll strategy as well as selection of candidates and have been waiting for an announcement from the Election Commission.
Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar,talking to newspersons here, said the BJP was the front runner for regaining power in the elections. Deputy Chief Minister and Party State President K S Eshwarappa, who has already tendered his resignation from the party post,said that the party would be facing the elections unitedly.
