4 policemen injured in stone pelting

Belgaum, Karnataka, Mar 20 : Police resorted to lathicharge and burst teargas shells to disperse a mob of stone pelting villagers who were agitated over alleged police inaction against a criminal in Kallolli Village in Gokak Taluk of this district.

According to police, four policemen were injured in the stone pelting incident.

Villagers were demanding action against Shankaralinga Malagi who married twice. Both the wives had allegedly committed suicide.

The villagers came in a procession to a hardware shop and house of Shangaralinga Malagi and pelted stones besides indulging in arsoning.

Police sources told UNI one of the wives, Sridevi, in her statement from the hospital bed, stated that the stove fell over her while she was cooking on March 14 and received injuries.

Her mother had also made a statement with the police that she did not suspect any foul play.

However, the villagers enraged over the mishap had come out in a procession and attacked the premises of Malagi.
