Chennai, Mar 20 : DMK President M Karunanidhi today strongly criticisd a section of the media and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for allegedly distorting his statement pronouncing the reasons for his party's pullout of the Congress led Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre yesterday.

In a statement here he said the DMK had clearly stated that India had assisted in watering down of the US resolution against Sri Lanka in the United Nations Human Rights Council-(UNHRC). The amendments to the US resolution suggested by his party were not carried out by the Centre.

He had cited these points as the reason for DMK pulling out of the UPA coalition government, Mr Karunanidhi clarified.

He said India's appreciation of Sri Lanka in the UN led to the watering down of the US resolution, he charged.

"In these circumstances the party decided to pull out of the UPA," Mr Karunanidhi clarified, adding his party had demanded two changes to the US resolution incorporating declaration of attacks on Lankan Tamils by Sri Lankan government and those in the government as war crimes and genocide and probe into war crimes and violation of international human rights laws, genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka by a credible international Association.
