Mumbai, Mar 20 : Five MLAs were suspended from the Maharashtra Legislature till December 31 this year for beating police sub-inspector Sachin Suryavanshi yesterday while he was in the audience gallery of the House.

A proposal to this effect was tabled by parliamentary affairs minister Harshwardhan Patil and was later adopted by the House.

The five MLAs are Kshitij Thakur (Bahujan Vikas Aghadi), Jaykumar Raval (BJP), Ram Kadam (MNS) Pradip Jaiswal and Rajan Salvi (Shiv Sena).

The attack on Suryavanshi was a fallout of tiff between the PSI and Mr Thakur day before yesterday for stopping the latter's car on Worli Sealink and asking him to pay the penalty. The issue was raised yesterday by Mr Thakur as a breach of privilege.

At that time, Suryavanshi who was present in the audience gallery gestured towards the MLA, prompting Mr Thakur and four others to attack him.

Later, Speaker Dilip Walse-Patil apologised for the incident and Harshwardhan Patil also apologised for the same today.
