Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 19 : Funds earmarked for 'Environment and Coastal Protection' was diverted to Tsunami unaffected districts in Kerala.
Releasing an Audit Report on General and Social Sector, Principal Accountant General R N Ghosh said the funds were diverted to four districts not coming under the Tsunami affected areas.
Selection of beneficiaries was also not in acordance with the guidelines, he added.
The implementation of the housing component under Tsunami Rehabilitation Programme by the State revealed that though the Tsunami caused damages to life and life supporting structure in five districts, the scheme was implemented in another four districts by diverting funds.
As against the target of 11,000 houses, construction of 9,123 houses were taken up and achievement of completion was only 8,549 houses as of July 2012.
In some cases, houses constructed were far away from their work places, resulting in non-allotment of completed houses.
