Budget moots Beggar Free Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 15 : A 'Beggar Free Kerala,' a scheme to rehabilitate beggars, was announced in the State Budget 2013-14, today.

Presenting the Budget, state Finance Minister K M Mani said Rs 14 crore was allocated for the scheme.

Under the scheme, 14 shelter homes in district headquarters would be set up to rehabilitate beggars. The Centres would provide logistics, medical support and treatment.

Lifelong shelter homes would be started in all districts for mentally challenged children with the cooperation of qualified NGOs.
