CRPF Jawan laid to rest with State honours
Madurai, Mar 15 : The mortal remains of slain Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Jawan L Perumal (29), who was killed in a Fidayeen attack in a CRPF camp at Srinagar was laid to rest with full State honours in his native Thummanayakkanpatti village under Peraiyur Taluk, here today.
Perumal, who belonged to the 73rd Battalion of CRPF, was among the five soldiers who were killed when two heavily armed militants attacked their camp at Srinagar on March 13.
His body arrived at Thummanayakkanpatti late last night.
Tamil Nadu Minister for Cooperation Sellur K Raju, who represented the State Government, placed a wreath on the body and paid his homage this morning. District collector Anshul Mishra among senior revenue and police officials also paid their respects.
Besides, hundreds of people and leaders of various political parties bid a tearful adieu to Perumal, who lost his life in the fight against terrorism. Later, the body was buried with full State honours.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha had condoled the death of Perumal and announced a cash relief of Rs five lakh to his family.
