Lucknow, Mar 15 : The mortal remains of Awadh Bihari Singh, the CRPF jawan who was killed in a fidayeen attack in Srinagar recently, was today consigned to flames at his native Karaut Buzurg village in Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh.
The last rites was performed with full-state honour at around 1400 hours.
Earlier in the day, the family of the slain martyr had denied to perform his last rites until Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav visits their village.
They had sit on dharna along with the locals to press for their demand akin to the manner in which the CM had visited the native place of Deputy Superintendent of Police Zia-Ul-Haq in Pratapgarh.
The agitators were pacified by cabinet minister Shiv Kumar Beria, who assured that Mr Yadav would meet them within a week.
Meanwhile, the martyr's family today received a cheque of Rs 20 lakhs as monetary compensation.
Mr Yadav last night announced this financial help to the family of the deceased.
On March 13, five jawans were killed in a fidayeen attack at CRPF camp in Srinagar.
