Shillong, Mar 15 : Three people accused of issuing threat letter against Umroi constituency legislator Ngaitlang Dhar, today appeared before police to clarify on the charges.

The trio--Sunlight Shadap, C L Marsharing and Donald Syiemiong--have been charged by the legislator for being involved in sending a threat letter to him.

The letter, issued by a non-descript organisation Ri-Bhoi Youth Liberation Front(RBYLF), had asked Mr Dhar to resign from his assembly membership immediately.

The letter, signed by J J Lapang and B L Syiem, the self-styled chairman and general secretary of the outfit respectively, also threatened the lawmaker with dire consequences if he failed to comply with the demand.

Following the receipt of the letter, Mr Dhar filed an FIR with the police and named the three persons as being involved in the case.

The accused are the main supporters of former Umroi legislator Stanley Wiss Rymbai.

Speaking to reporters today after appearing before police at Khapmara outpost near Umroi, the three expressed surprise with the action of the Umroi legislator against them.

"Instead of finding out the facts, the legislator chose to name us as being involved in the matter. This is unacceptable," they said.

They also stated that the action was 'an act of political vendetta' by Mr Dhar as they did not support him in the recent elections.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of Ri-Bhoi People (CORP) in its emergency meeting held at Umsning today, condemned the threat issued against Mr Dhar and said it was an attempt to create division in the society. It also asked the police to trace the culprits behind the threat.
