4 corrupt govt staff nabbed, huge assets unearthed

Bangalore, Mar 14: Striking hard against the corrupt officials, the Karnataka Lokayukta police today conducted simultaneous raids on different places of four state government officials and confiscated properties, cash and gold ornaments worth several crore.

Speaking to reporters here, Lokayukta Director General of Police H N Satyanarayana said all the four officials had been arrested and produced before a Court.

The officials were Additional Registrar of Cooperative Societies C S Viresh, Group D employee in BBMP M Kariyappa, BBMP bill collector N Krishna and Ankappa, a lab technician at Kidwai Institute of Oncology.

"We have seized Rs two crore worth of assets, both movable and immovable from Mr Veeresh's offices and homes conducting simultaneous raids this morning. Similarly, Rs 2.4 crore worth of assets were found in possession of Kariyappa and Rs 2.1 crore assets with Krishna while Ankappa had Rs 1.3 crore worth of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income," he said.

The police officer said valuation of various other assets, including land, bank lockers and others, was being done.

Incidentally, Kariyappa had half a dozen house plots allotted in his name by government-run housing cooperative as the Secretary of Karnataka Group D Workers Association.
