Absconding Lankan Tamil held in counterfeit currency case
Tiruchirapalli, Mar 14: A 50-year-old Sri Lankan Tamil, who was wanted by police in connection with a counterfeit currency case for the last 13 years, was arrested when he landed at the airport here on Tuesday.
Police said here today that the arrested Mohammed Kiyaz, and his friend were arrested in connection with the counterfeit currency case of 2000 by the Chennai city police, who seized their passports.
However, the duo got bail in the same year and managed to escape to Sri Lanka with fake passports.
Acting on valid information that Kiyaz was coming to Tiruchirapalli by air, the Chennai City police alerted the Immigration authorities as well the Airport police, and affected the arrest when he landed.
The police party from Chennai city took him there, police added.
