Intensive cleaning of river Pamba on Mar 16, 17 in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 14: An intensive cleaning up operation of river Pamba, Sabarimala Sannidhaanam and its premises will be taken up on March 16, and 17. in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Amala Bharatham (ABC) volunteers of Mata Amritanandamayi Math,along with the Amrita Vishwa
Vidyapeetham students, will carry out the fourth phase of the intensive cleaning.

Unlike the previous times, this phase of cleaning will be happening at a time when Sabarimala temple is open for pilgrims.

In this fourth phase of cleaning, around 2200 hrs Amala Bharatham volunteers are expected to participate of which, around 1300 hrs volunteers will be cleaning Sabarimala and 900 (mostly women) will be cleaning river Pamba and its surroundings.

Volunteers from across the state will be participating in this cleaning drive.

An emergency medical team consisting of doctors from AIIMS will be camping both at Sannidhanam and Pamba and provide medical support to the volunteers.

The Amrita hospital at Pamba will also be offering its medical service to the pilgrims and ABC volunteers during these days. This clean-up program was organized in
response to the request letter from Sabarimala sanitation society chairman, Pathanamthitta District Collector, to Mata Amritanandamayi Math secretary on February 28, requesting the Math to take up the cleaning of Sabarimala and river Pamba.

A meeting in this regard of Math Amala Bharatham organisers and Dist Collector V N Jithendran, Sabarimala special commisioner (Pathanamthitta District Judge) Babu, was held on March 7, 2013.
