6-day Budget Session of Nagaland Assembly begins

Kohima, Mar 14: The Budget Session of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly began today with oath taking and affirmation of the newly-elected members and election of the new Speaker.

The session began with Pro-tem Speaker Namri Nchang welcoming all 59 members.

Mr Nchang administered the oath of office and affirmation to all the members.

Later, Mr Chotisuh Sazo was unanimously elected the Speaker.

Leader of the House and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Congress Legislature Party leader Tokheho Yepthomi went to the seat of Mr Sazo and led him to the Chair of the Speaker.

Mr Rio in his address to the House congratulated Mr Sazo and hoped that with his experiences, he will be able to deliver his duty efficiently.

CLP leader Tokiheho also congratulated Mr Sazo and hoped he will deliver his duty impartially.

Mr Sazo thanked all the members of the House for electing him the Speaker.

Tomorrow, Governor Nikhil Kumar will address the House following which Mr Rio, who also holds the Finance portfolio, will present two Supplementary Demands for Grants for Regularisation of Excess Expenditure for the years 2007-08 and 2012-13.

On March 16, he will present a Vote on Accounts for the first four months of 2013-2014. This will be followed by a debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor's address.
