Railways to install Fog Safe Device to reduce stress on pilots
Kolkata, Mar 14: Indian Railway plans to introduce Fog Safe Device (FSD) to minimise stress on Loco pilots and increase the speed of freight and passenger trains during winter and foggy weather.
India Coal Market Watch (ICMW) quoted IR as saying, "FSD is a Global Positioning System (GPS) based device provided on locomotives working on high density, fog prone sections on Indian Railways on trial basis."
The equipment shows the name of approaching signals and other critical landmarks even during poor visibility condition.
"However, there are issues of reliability and effectiveness that need to be sorted before this device can be universally adopted for fog safety. The device is under extended trials, during which evaluation and improvement shall be done before it is adopted on a large scale," the official added.
