Anganwadi workers agitation figures in Odisha Assembly
Bhubaneswar, Mar 14: The issue of the ongoing agitation by thousands of Anganwadi workers was raised in the Odisha Assembly with several members urging the government to resolve the issue with the representatives of the agitated workers.
Raising the issue during zero hour Mr Ranendra Pratap Swain (BJD) said thousands of Anganwadi workers are on a day and night strike in front of the Assembly for the Past three days demanding fulfillment of their demands.
Among other things the Anganwadi workers are demanding upward revision of their salary.
Mr Swain said the Union government in their budget had not made any provision for a hike in their salary. He urged the Speaker to direct the state government to have discussion with them and try to resolve the impasse.
Pravat Ranjan Biswal (BJD)said the Anganwadi workers were only getting Rs 3500 as salary per month which was very less in comparison to their work load.
He urged the Speaker to direct the Minister concerned to have discussion with them and to consider their demands. Mr Samir Ranjan Das (BJD) also wanted the Speaker to direct the government to discuss their demands and find out a solution.
Mr Jhina Hikaka, Mr Rajendra Kumar Das, Mr Manohar Randhari, Mr Purna Chandra Sethi, all BJD also urged the government to consider their demands.
Thousands of Anganwadi workers have blocked the busy Mahatma Gandhi Marg in front of the Assembly for the third day today in support of their demands.
