Speaker refuses debate on SC's rejection of review petition
Bhubaneswar, Mar 14: Odisha Assembly Speaker P K Amat today ruled the rejection of the review petition filed before the Supreme Court on the issue of disqualification of four NCP MLAs could not be discussed as it was not covered under the purview of the House.
Mr Amat gave the ruling after Mr Santosh Singh Saluja (Cong) during the Zero Hour stated that the rejection of the petition filed by the Speaker had lowered the image and dignity of the Chair and being discussed by the people.
Four NCP-MLAs--Amar Prasad Satpathy, Prasanta Nanda, Nabin Nanda and Ramachandra Hansda joined the BJD on June 5, 2012 after deserting their parent party.
NCP state President Utkal Parida first approached the Speaker and then moved the High Court seeking their disqualification
under the Anti-Defection law.
The High Court on September 27 last had directed the
Speaker
to take a decision on the fate of four MLAs within eight weeks. But the Speaker challenged the order in apex court.
The SC upheld the judgement of the High Court and rejected the petition of the Speaker on January 17.
The Speaker again filed a review petition which was also rejected by a division bench of the Supreme Court yesterday.
