Safe drinking water in fluoride, arsenic affected areas in 3 Yrs: Rai

Patna, Mar 14: Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister Chandramohan Rai today said the state government would ensure availability of safe drinking water to fluoride and arsenic affected areas in Bihar in the next three years.

Replying to a short notice question of BJP member Achwitanand, Mr Rai admitted that presence of fluoride and arsenic in ground water in 5,747 villages of 32 districts, were found to be far above than the standard limit fixed by experts. The state government had allotted Rs 113.11 crore for drinking water schemes in the last three years, he added.

Mr Rai said the work to ensure availability of safe drinking water in affected areas was being completed in phased manner. The state government was committed to provide safe drinking water to all and sincere steps were being taken in this direction, he added.

PHED minister said National Rural Drinking Water Mission was being executed with all sincerity and schemes had been sanctioned for sample testing of about 4 lakhs sources of public drinking water outlets. The scheme would be completed by the end of next year, he added.
