Mumbai, Mar 14: Dr Kiran Bapu Mahajan, Deputy Collector (Land Tenancy Act), Pune, will be suspended in a case of bribery of December last year, Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil informed the Legislative Council today.

Replying to a query raised by Jayant Patil (PWP) during Question Hour on why DC was not suspended when a clerk Shivaji Randive has already been suspended in the same bribery case, Mr Patil made it clear that he was not suspended on the technical ground.

But, he had a word with Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat this morning, who has asked for Mahajan's file from concerned officer and he will be suspended soon.

Mr Patil further said as per the rules and regulations, a person who is arrested in the case and is in jail for 48 hrs, then only he/she will be suspended. In this case, Mahajan got bail immediately, while Randive was in jail for more than 48 hours therefore, he was suspended, but Mahajan was not.

On September 12 last year, the Anti-Corruption Bureau had conducted raid at the residence of Mahajan and seized Rs 1.95 crore and documents of disproportionate assests. Randive was suspended after four days of his arrest, he added.
